I am an IT consultant and live
in a city away from my family. IT, as we all know is a busy industry
and I often find that days have passed by before I have had the
chance to socialize, leave alone call my family. After sometime, the
deadlines, presentations, meetings and not to forget the long hours
seem to get to you. Not surprisingly then, on weekends I often find
myself flipping through old photo albums to unwind. While I am glad
we have memory to etch all our favorite moments, I am gladder that
we have been able to replicate one of God’s best gifts to mankind by
inventing the camera.
On one such weekend as I flipped through last Christmas’ photos,
reliving every moment, I realized that photos would make just the
right gift for my mother’s birthday. Well, if not photos, then
something that had to do with photos – perhaps albums. Na, albums
are something that you usually tuck away in cupboards and take them
out occasionally. It had to be something that was on constant
display. Something that instantly took you back to those favorite
moments. That’s when I thought of photo frames.
Yes, photo frames was the
perfect gift for mom. Photo frames were pretty and complimented
mom’s aesthetic sensibilities. And they came in all kinds of shapes
and sizes. There were the large ones, small ones, ones that housed
single photos and those that housed multiple photos. Interestingly
they came in all kinds of materials – expensive crystal ones, wooden
ones, plastic and even wood.
I was decided then. It was
going to be photo frames so I set off to the nearest mall to select
one for mamma dear. To my surprise, and pleasantly so, I found just
the right gift store at one corner of the mall. It had a wide range
of photo frames and the pleasant part was that many of them had
discounts and some came with promotional coupons. What luck! I
rummaged through the rack for something that my mother would like
and finally settled on a modern looking large square piece. It was
one of those that could house several photos and moreover it would
blend in well with the rest of her décor.
I was happy with my
purchase. I returned home to browse through the right photos to
place on the frame. I picked some from my childhood, a couple from
college, last year’s Christmas, and yes one from my parent’s 25th
marriage anniversary. And as I gazed at the final ensemble, I
beamed. There was mom’s favorite images all framed into one
beautiful moment.
